Encouraging Positivity for Your November Journalling Prompts
Hello dear readers,
I mentioned in a previous newsletter that I planned to share journalling prompts to remind you how awesome you are.
November is typically a month of gratitude following the last harvest of the year. Since you’ll be assessing and taking stock next month, I wanted to shift the focus a bit to infuse some self-encouragement into your monthly journalling practice. After all, if you’re only identifying things that need to be fixed or addressed—you’ll wind up in a space where you’ll always “be” fixing. Being too hard on yourself can inadvertently lead to feelings of lack. Maybe you feel that you aren’t productive enough or that you, yourself, aren’t good enough to create. And, maybe your thoughts always circulate about what “else” you “should” be doing—instead of enjoying yourself as you are.
I need to share with you a secret: The reason why I planned for a Year of Planting Seeds is that we’re all works-in-progress. All of us. But, just because you’re growing into the person you want to be doesn’t mean that you are somehow unworthy of positive vibes, love, and encouragement right now.
So, for this month, I wanted to add some prompts to help you find your mojo—so you can keep growing, thriving, and creating.
November Confidence-Building Prompts for Your Journal
These journalling prompts are a broad mixture of ideas to help spark your confidence. You are encouraged to use the prompt(s) that resonates with you.
Name three things you like about your writing. Remind yourself why you enjoy those aspects of your craft.
Describe a moment you felt proud of yourself as a creator. Try to recapture the circumstances of that moment in your journal.
Words are a writer’s stock and trade. Choose 10-20 thematically-positive words to describe yourself as a creator.
What three things do you like writing the most? Why? If you’re stuck, you can always pick a genre, structural component (dialogue, description, etc.), type of work (story, comic, essay), fiction or nonfiction, etc. Remind yourself why you like writing these specific things!
Do you have a creator you admire? Awesome! We tend to resonate with others who remind us of ourselves. Take a beat and identify similarities between your hero and yourself.
Name three things you like about yourself as a human being. How do those aspects either appear in your writing or relate to your craft?
Did you take a risk this past year? Regardless of the outcome, congratulations! Describe how you felt taking that chance. Would you do it again? Why or why not?
Lastly, if you’re struggling to focus on the positive right now, grab a fresh sheet of paper to perform a SWOT analysis (Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, and Talents) for yourself as a creator. This matrix will list your weaknesses, but it will also remind you that you have positive traits, too.
I hope you take the time to positively reflect on your writing or your career this month. But, before I go??!?! Thank you for reading and being part of my community.
In December, I’ll be winding down this year’s “planting seeds” theme by helping you remember your journey thus far. ‘Til next time!
